Introduction

CheckNest ("we", "us", or "our") operates the CheckNest website and Android application (the "Service"). This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account with email/password, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text).

When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, name, and email address from Google to create or match your CheckNest account. We do not receive or store your Google password.

Usage Data

We store the checklists you create, save, and like, and your check progress on saved checklists, so that your progress is preserved across sessions and devices.

Language Preference

We store your selected display language in a cookie (and sync it from your device language on first app launch).

Push Notification Token

If you enable notifications in the Android app, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token linked to your account so we can deliver notifications to your device. This token is removed when you log out or disable notifications.

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on our servers hosted by Hostinger. Passwords are encrypted using bcrypt hashing. Session cookies are HTTP-only and, in production, sent over HTTPS only.

Data Sharing

We do NOT sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. Google Sign-In and Firebase Cloud Messaging are used solely to authenticate you and deliver notifications; we do not share your CheckNest data with them beyond what is required for those features.

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a preference cookie to remember your selected language. These are essential cookies required for the Service to function.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Account Settings, which permanently removes your personal data, checklists you created, and your saved progress.

Children's Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
